ABOUT US

The association

The European Cheese Route is an association of municipalities that seeks to promote local, responsible and sustainable tourism through their pastoral and cheese heritage.

Our landscapes have been ploughed by shepherds and our cheeses are unequivocal ambassadors of their territories. Under these premises, AREQ (European Cheese Route Association) aims to enhance the territory and allow people to discover, taste and experience the world of cheese from multiple perspectives.

Municipalities

We are cheese-making territories. We live and feel cheese as an essential part of our daily lives

The infinite variety of cheeses present in Europe unites us in diversity and gives us arguments to work hand in hand; to generate wealth in our municipalities; to preserve the identity, culture and historical and gastronomic heritage of the territory and to ensure the production and value chain of the dairy sector by promoting innovation and attractiveness that favour generational change.

Projects

“What if we could contribute to reducing our carbon footprint by eating cheese, or preserving a native goat breed in danger of extinction?”

AREQ works to generate innovative projects that seek to respond to current and future problems in the sector. We focus on the economic, tourist and heritage promotion of cheese-producing territories in terms of sustainability.

Cheese artisans

The quality of life of our people is the essential argument of our projects. Without shepherds and cattle breeders there are no pastures or flocks, without them there is no milk and without milk there is no cheese. We need to strengthen all the socioeconomic sectors that work in the world of cheese so that the territory does not weaken.
